Transitioning to the NDIS Worker Screening Check

In each state, there is a transition window to allow Social Carers to transition over to the NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWC).

The NDIS Worker Screening Check was made mandatory as of the 1st of February, 2021. To allow time for Social Carers to transition over to this check, there are a few requirements you need to be aware of.

All Social Carers will be expected to obtain this check at some stage in the near future. Failing to obtain the check by your applicable cut-off date will result in your profile being deactivated until the check is submitted. Whilst your profile is deactivated, you will not be allowed to continue or source work via the platform. Your status cannot be changed until you have uploaded your new NDISWC.

Read below to find out how much time you have before you need to make the switch:

NSW Transition:

Activated on the platform prior to February 1st, 2021

You can continue working on the platform without an NDISWC until your police check issue date is 2 years old.

After this date, you must transition over to the NDISWC.

If your police check is approaching or has already passed the 2-year threshold, you must apply for the NDISWC immediately in order to remain activated on the Like Family platform.

Applications can be submitted via the Service NSW website.

Activated on the platform after February 1st, 2021

No action required as all Social Carers activated on the platform after this date should already hold a NDISWC.

VIC Transition:

Activated on the platform prior to February 1st, 2021, and hold a Working With Children Check issued prior to February 1st, 2021

You can continue working on the platform until the Working With Children Check expires. Once this card expires, you will need to get an NDISWC.

Activated on the platform prior to February 1st, 2021 and do not hold a Working With Children Check

You are required to get an NDIS Workers Screening Check before July 31st in order to continue working on the platform.

Applications can be submitted via the Service Victoria website.

Activated on the platform after February 1st, 2021

No action required as all Social Carers activated on the platform after this date should already hold an NDISWC.

QLD Transition:

You will need to have your NDISWC available at the time of your application.

Applications can be submitted through the Queensland Government website.
