Can I still get support if I test positive for COVID-19?

If a Member tests positive for COVID-19 support services are still available to them. Social Carers may be required to take additional precautions while providing services.

If a Member tests positive for COVID-19 there are no government-mandated isolation requirements and Like Family will continue to offer support services throughout their infectious period. However, in order to ensure to safety of our Social Carers and their loved ones who may be more at risk, additional precautions may need to be taken during these support shifts.

1. Notify Like Family

If you test positive for COVID-19 and have or expect to have upcoming bookings, please notify the Like Family team and if possible, any Social Carers that you have bookings with over the next 7 days.

If you are unable to notify your Social Carers or do not wish to do so yourself, our team will be able to assist you.

2. Identify the type of support you require during your most infectious period

If you are able to go without in person, face-to-face support for at least 7 days after testing positive for COVID-19, but still require other support services during this time, please let the Like Family team know. Services that Social Carers can offer that pose little to no risk to community members include:

  • Online video calls
  • Contact free grocery collection and drop off
  • Contact free medication and essentials collection and drop off

If you require in person, face-to-face support during your infectious window, your Social Carers will need to wear appropriate personal protective equipment consisting of:

  • P2/N95 respirator

  • Eye protection

  • Long-sleeved gown/apron

  • Gloves

To ensure the safety of Social Carers, read more about the information pack that outlines the appropriate use of PPE.

3. Wear a mask

If you are able to, please wear a mask when Social Carers are providing support services to you after testing positive for COVID-19. This helps to ensure their safety and reduces the risk of infecting them with the virus.

4. Maintain physical distance from Social Carers

Whenver possible, maintain a distance of at least 1.5 metres from your Social Carer while on a booking.
