Social Carers using their own vehicle

Before travelling in a vehicle they must:

• Check that the vehicle is safe, clean and roadworthy
• Provide Like Family with a copy of their vehicle registration and their Australian driver licence
• Confirm they have Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance on their car
• Discuss with the Member the need for a first aid kit to be kept in the vehicle.

Remember if someone is using their own vehicle they are responsible for any damage caused to the vehicle (or another vehicle involved in an accident). It is important to confirm that they have the appropriate level of insurance as they are not covered by Like Family insurance in these scenarios.

Using your own vehicle

If you need a Social Carer to drive your own vehicle you must:

• Ensure that your vehicle is safe, clean and roadworthy
• Confirm that your vehicle is registered in your state
• Confirm that you have Compulsory Third Party(CTP) insurance on your car
• Consider the need for Comprehensive Vehicle Insurance (Like Family insurance does not cover your vehicle)
• Confirm that you will conduct a visual inspection of your vehicle once per year.
• Ensure your vehicle is maintained and serviced in accordance with the owner’s manual
• Consider the need for a first aid kit to be kept in your vehicle
• Ensure the person knows how to operate your vehicle.
