Understanding the risks of taking support "off-platform"

We have numerous safeguards in place to keep you safe during bookings. Learn about the risks of going off-platform for both you and your Member or Social Carer.

Has your Social Carer or Member approached you about going "off-platform"? This means deciding to organise bookings and payments directly, rather than via Like Family's platform.

When you make a booking with Like Family's platform, you benefit from numerous safeguards we have in place to keep you and your Member/Social Carer safe. Taking bookings off-platform can lead to serious risks if something goes wrong.

This article will outline what safeguards we offer, the risks of going off-platform, and what consequences may arise if you do.

The benefits of making bookings with Like Family

When you make a booking via Like Family's platform, you're protected by numerous safeguards and benefits. These include:

  • Insurance: we have Public Liability and Group Personal Accident insurance in place. This means Social Carers can rest easy if an emergency situation arises during a Like Family booking.
  • Vetting of Social Carers: Social Carers must undergo a comprehensive vetting process before they can support our Members, including NDIS Worker Screening Checks (if supporting NDIS participants) and Working with Children Checks (if supporting Members under 18).
  • Incident reporting: as a registered NDIS provider, we have a thorough incident reporting process in place to prioritise the health & safety of our community.
  • Quality customer support: if you need to find urgent support, our team is always here to help.
  • Administration: we handle things like payment processing and invoicing so you don't have to.

The risks of going off-platform

If you decide to make a booking with your Member or Social Carer outside of the Like Family platform:

  • You will be in breach of our Terms & Conditions
  • You will not be protected by the insurance we have in place
  • We cannot ensure the quality of support services provided.

If we identify that you have proposed taking support off-platform, you will receive a warning, and may have your account deactivated.

What should I do if my Member or Social Carer wants to take our bookings off-platform?

If a Member or Social Carer proposes going off-platform, please decline their offer politely and let our team know by emailing hello@likefamily.com.au or calling 1800 545 332.
