Who pays for any additional expenses during a booking?

Additional expenses need to be discussed and agreed upon before a booking takes place. We suggest you do this during a Meet and Greet.

If you do not have a Companion Card, we recommend discussing with your Social Carer which expenses will or won’t be paid for. It's up to the Member to decide what they are comfortable with. Additional expenses can include food, ticket costs and parking.

Like Family does not organise the payment or invoicing for additional expenses.

You can read about applying for a companion card here: NSW Companion Card program

NDIS and transport

From 1 March 2020, NDIS participants will be able to flexibly use their plan’s core support funding to claim service provider costs associated with transporting participants to and from NDIS funded community-based activities

If a Social Carer agrees to use their own car during a booking to assist you in accessing the community, you have the option to pay $1.00 per kilometre to cover the vehicle costs, including fuel. Kilometres covered start from when a Carer picks you up to when they drop you off. You do not need to cover the Social Carer's travel to and from a booking.

Remember to communicate clearly with your Carer

Expenses and payments should always be discussed before a booking takes place. If there is a complaint or dispute, a refund may be considered after a thorough investigation from the Like Family team. Please contact us on 1800 545 332 if you have any questions.
