What does Like Family charge?

We've ensured our services are affordable for Members regardless of their funding, whilst paying our Social Carers fairly and competitively.

We’re committed to making our pricing as simple and affordable as possible. That means:

  • Keeping our hourly rates well below industry pricing, so you can achieve more of your goals no matter what funding you have.
  • Charging flat hourly rates, so you don’t need to negotiate prices with your Carer. You only pay for the time your Social Carer is providing care.
  • No subscription or credit card fees, so you don’t get hit with surprise costs.
  • Keeping our 1 hour minimum booking length for face-to-face support, and a minimum 30 minutes for video and phone bookings.

The following rates are effective as of 1 September 2023.

Sleepover support

This is an overnight booking of 8-10 hours.

  • It starts anytime after 7pm
  • Must be a minimum of 8 continuous hours
  • Includes 2 hours of active support
  • If an overnight booking starts before 7pm, the additional hours will be charged at that day's hourly rate + sleepover rate
  • If an overnight booking is longer than 10 hours, the additional hours will be charged at that day's hourly rate + sleepover rate

A Social Carer is allowed to sleep when they are not providing support.

 ‘Active support’ refers to when the Social Carer is supporting you in some capacity (like helping you prepare for bed). Keep in mind that our Carers cannot help with personal care, like showering.

The below breakdown is in accordance with the NDIS Price Guide and definition of a sleepover shift. It cannot be reduced or modified, except in circumstances as outlined below:

Any support given by the Social Carer during the night that exceeds the included 2 active hours by more than 30 minutes will be charged at the regular hourly rate. Similarly, if your Social Carer is awake and actively providing support to you for frequent yet short periods of time, we will need to adjust the booking cost accordingly. Video and Phone Bookings

In addition to face-to-face bookings, Like Family offers Members the opportunity to receive supports through online video or phone bookings. We understand these bookings may not always last the minimum booking time of 1 hour, so we offer a 30min video or phone booking rate (for calls over 30mins, normal hourly rate applies).

NDIS and transport

NDIS participants are able to flexibly use their plan’s core support funding to claim service provider costs associated with transporting participants to and from NDIS funded community-based activities.

Transport as part of a booking is charged at $1.00 per kilometre and covers travel during a booking. There is no charge for the cost of a Social Carer travelling to and from their home to a booking.
