What do I need to know before applying?

As a proud NDIS registered provider, Like Family undergoes strict measures of vetting new Social Carers through a comprehensive onboarding process involving background checks and a video interview (for NDIS and social support)

What is Like Family?

Like Family is an online platform that connects people who need care, with people who really care. Members sign up to our platform looking for support services and we match them with Social Carers in their area who can assist them in fulfilling their needs and achieving their goals.

What type of work would I be doing?

As we specialise in social and community support, it's important to note that our Social Carers are not qualified or insured to provide services such as personal care or medical care. More information on that can be found in this Social Carer guide.

Alternatively, Social Carers from Like Family focus on social care and provide support in other ways such as through:

  • Companionship
  • Skills Training (eg. teaching someone to take public transport)
  • Social activities, like movies, fishing, and going to concerts
  • Cooking and meal preparation
  • Help with appointments (eg. doctors) and errands (eg. grocery shopping)
  • Light exercise, such as walks
  • Local transport and getting around
  • Assistance with cleaning
  • Assistance with gardening

What does the application process involve?

  1. First, you will need to create a Social Carer account where you will be asked to fill out an About You section telling us who you are, what you love doing, your qualifications, and how you can help out in the community. Take as much time as you need to write this section (as you would with a cover letter) as our recruitment team will review this to determine if you are a successful candidate.
  2. If your application is successful, you will be asked to complete other onboarding requirements based on the type of work you are interested in doing. This may include providing certain documentation or attending a group induction. Our induction is required for those who are interested in providing social support and working with NDIS participants and Members under 18. The induction will give you an opportunity to demonstrate your problem-solving and interpersonal skills. We ask questions about how you might handle certain situations while working and assess your understanding of what it means to work for an NDIS provider.
